I see you every night
Walking along the beach.
Your hair is explosive,
Awash in the milky glow
Of the brilliant moon.
The stars frame your face,
A nightscape in surrounds you.
The tide is changing,
I hear thunder somwhere in the distance.
I see no clouds in the sky,
Where can it be coming from?
It is my heart
Running rampant
In anticipation of your touch.
I want to run to you
But I cannot.
I simply stand and wait.
Your step is painfully slow,
Aganizingly fluid.
The simple sea inches across the sand,
Cooling the baked coastline.
Still you follow your course.
The wind picks up,
Catching your hair and
Turning it in the air,
Animating it with life.
The sea turns black,
Followed by your beauty
And everything between us.
There is no moon when I glance up,
Only a charchol cloud
Devouring the night sky.
Yet still you stay your course,
So close now.
I can see the smile
Of your tantalizing lips.
I can almost feel your warmth
Coursing through my body.
But almost within arm’s length,
A rolling wave crashes over us,
Spraying a frozen wash of needles
Between us.
I cannot see you
And I realize that the wave is not from the sea,
But from the sky.
Hell is raining down upon us.
My hell.
You have vanished in this vertical tide.
Another wave, this from the sea,
Crashes into me.
Nothing but darkness now.
When I awake it is morning,
As it always is.
I reach out for you,
But find only my blanket,
Awash in pillows.
Unabtainable pleasure
Is torture
To those who have none,
But hell
To those who have no more.
