Doesn't matter how often I hear this song, I still love it.
Just got off the phone with my mom. Haven't talked to her since Christmas, and it was a really nice chat.
Things aren't so great back home, or for her in general, so she kind of vented to me (because I'm the one she can do that with :)). My 16 year old sister got caught drinking with a friend of hers in our house, and the other parents found out and there's all this drama. So, Ash's grounded for 8 months (no comment on how this gives me a nice tingling sensation). That accident my brother was in before Xmas is coming back to haunt them: what happend was that someone t-boned Brian, and ran him into oncoming traffic and he wound up hitting someone head on. Well, now the person he hit head on is suing both of them. And then my mom just found out that her old bookkeeper for the business didn't pay state taxes in Illinois or Iowa for the business. Ever. So, they're kind of freaking out about trying to get that all settled. And my dad got bit by a dog and had to have like 29 stitches in his hand - he gets those out tomorrow. Grandpa had eye surgery, but all is well. And, it seems that Brian's keeping out of trouble. He's got a girlfriend - a good one, from what I hear, he's working all the time. The four of them (Mom, Dad, Brian, and Ashley) are going to Daytona for the race in a couple weeks, which should be nice for my mom. She needs a vacation pretty bad right now.
All in all, it was actually a pretty nice talk. We talked about Graduation, and I asked if they were coming. She said "Of Course." It's not that I don't think they care or whatever, I just wasn't sure if they'd want to come all the way up here for a boring ceremony. So that really makes me incredibly happy. I didn't want to admit it, but I want my family to see my graduate. Then we talked about what's going to happen after graduation. She didn't put any pressure on me to come home, but she mentioned that there's always a place for me if I want or need it. And she didn't sound dissapointed when I told her that I want to stay here. We laughed about the fact I'm working at the bar I used to be a regular at. We're both wanting to quit smoking.
I love those kind of conversations, where we're not really family, but more like old friends that haven't talked for a long time. It makes me happy.
