I'm trying to decide what internet I want to get for the apartment, and I'm all confused.

My options are DSL with SBC, or cable internet with Comcast.

Don't you need a phone line to have DSL?

Yep, you need the phone line for DSL and are pretty much at the mercy of the phone service. At least I am, cable isn't an option where I am (too boony for cable) and our local phone company won't let any other DSL providers in so we're kinda stuck. However, having said that, ever since they upgraded the entire phone system the DSL has been working great. A friend of mine has cable and while I've heard that the number of users can actually affect the speed on cable I've NEVER heard her complain about that and believe me she'd be quick to complain if that happened. She lives in a VERy populated suburb of Philly so I would think user #s COULD be an issue if that's a true factor. For me, it's as toss-up - guess if I had a choice I'd go with price?

Well, nothing like a week late:)

Thanks for the info; I think I am going to go with cable, because I don't want to pay for a phoneline *and* internet to go with it, unless I find someplace where it's cheaper to do that. Still shopping around, considering I can't even afford AOL at the moment *cringe*.

if you havent decided already, id say go with cable... generally tends to be faster, generally more reliable, generally just less hassle.
