Just bought most of my books for next quarter, and (so far!) I'm at a grand total of 81.95! *whoot*

I still need two books, one being Daisy Miller for American Novel, and the other being my Psychology of Men textbook which I can't get till the day of class. So I'm expecting books to be at around $200 this quarter.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about the books we'll be reading in American Novel next quarter - they're all books I've wanted to read and had on my list but never got around to it. All of them, save one.

The books I'm looking forward to:
The Great Gatsby
Daisy Miller
Catcher in the Rye (I finally get to read it!)
Grapes of Wrath
Color Purple.

Exciting, no?

The book that I do not want to ever even look at because I hate it so much:
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

I detest this book. Stewing raging hatred isn't strong enough to describe my feelings for it. I realize that it is an American Novel class, so I pretty much figured it'd be on the list. But, as a midwestern boy (don't know how it is in the rest of the States), I was forced to read that book in 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. I GET IT ALREADY!!! Grrr. *kicks it*

I took that class sophomore year with Dr. Williams; I loved it. But we read:
(Parts of) The Coquette, which I actually bought for the NLUS last year, so I have the whole thing now
Bartleby the Scrivener
Huck Finn (HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE THIS?!)
Daisy Miller
Farewell to Arms (I hate E. Hemingway)
Great Gatsby
Catcher in the Rye (I had the same reaction: "Finally!")
The Bluest Eye (Best book ever)

If only I'd held onto Daisy Miller! I'd hand it over to you in a heartbeat. I love Henry James, but that story didn't do it for me.

ive read all those books, save daisy miller. that one ive never ever heard of. and im almost positive youll enjoy them as much as you think. just dont ever watch the movie The Great Gatsby if you havent already. dasiy will have you contemplating suicide. or at least turning it off.

and i loved huck finn. only read it for once class, though. survey of american lit. i think if i HAD to read it for class so many times, id dislike it too, though.

Daisy Miller is in my anthology from Early American Lit. Though I'm sure the few bucks you'll pay for it will be better than carrying that big thing around. If I'd been taking notes in my book at the time, I would say it would be worth lugging around for the Bradshaw notes, but sadly, I had not yet started that.

Great Gatsby I love, though I hate both versions of the movie. I haven't read the others, except Huck Finn, naturally. But as for that one, you shouldn't even need to read it by this point. Maybe some sparknotes to unblock your memory a bit.

*YOU* grow up in Mississippi River country and still like that book, I *dare* you. lol.

Ah, Bradshaw *happy sigh*.

Never seen Great Gatsby, but it's always been on my list.

Dear Gods no, I will not read that book again. Sparknotes is my friend. The only reason I'm even buying the book is so that he might get the impression that I'm putting forth some sort of effort. That, and I got it for $2.00 on E-Bay.

There are two movies, and they both suck.

Perhaps it would suffer from over-exposure...but I still loves it dear.

And hey, at least you're not Jason. He had to read Gone With The Wind in high school. Bleach!
