my first shindig
Was a total success. *beams* And a total blast.
I'd told people to show up about 8:00. So all day after I left here I was running around the apartment (which, if you can imagine, is akin to a hamster running a very small wheel) getting everything ready. I went way overboard with food; I've got a ton left. So I was setting out the food, placing candles, figuring out lighting strategies, and cleaning like mad. About 10 after 8 I finished lighting all the candles. Had the cocktail vibe going and everything. And no one's there. 8:20, no one; 8:30, no one. FINALLY about quarter to nine the first people show up. And then people were trickling in and out the rest of the night.
In the space of about 6 hours, we went through two bottles of wine, a 24 pack of bud light, a half bottle of Jack, and about a bottle of vodka (80 proof at that). The onion dip went pretty fast, so did the strawberry butter (was a *huge* hit, by the way, which makes me happy since it was the first time I'd made it). No one touched the strawberry cream cheese, but the "Kiss of death" garlic spread went pretty fast too. I did go way overboard with food, though. There's still a bunch of leftover stuff in my fridge.
So about 2 o'clock this morning, our drunk asses decided we wanted to go to the beach. So we stocked up on drinks and food and hiked the four blocks south and sat at the beach and had deep deep conversations about love and politics and world hunger (you gotta love those kinds of talks).
I finally got back home a little after 4, ordered a pizza for me and Vive and Ryan, and passed the fuck out. Didn't wake up till about 10, got showered and dressed and now I'm headed to the train station to get to work. I'm doing an event on Michigan Avenue tonight, which for those of you that don't know, is the big shopping district of Chicago. Note that I am *not* taking any cash or credit cards save for my train fare.
Anyway; just wanted to post and let you all know that I'm one *fabulous* party-thrower. Everyone asked when i was going to do it again:) So I'll probably throw a "back to school" party in September. Look at me - I'm the party dude! *whoot*
