Cue crying screeming girly horror movie type reactions:

Big hornet. Big BIG BIG hornet. IN MY ROOM. In MY ROOM. *shudder* I hate those things almost as much as spiders. ALMOST.

But, I managed to kill it after five minutes of chasing each other around. First it was on the inside of the window screen, so I smacked with my flip-flop. Then it fell and I lost it. So I took everything away from the window and couldn't find it still. So I left the room to pee becaause I have to pee when I get scared or nervous, and came back to look some more around the window. Still no such luck. I turned around, and there it was on top of my endtable in the sitting area, trying to fly. I smacked it again with a heavier shoe and it fell onto the carpet - dammit! It blends in with my carpet because it's brown and yellow and black. Not fucking cool. So I found it, and beat the shit of it with a still-heavier shoe. And now I'm afraid to luck under it in case it's still alive. So I put the shoe down, but my ottomon on top of the shoe and put about 12 books on top of the ottomon. If that thing's still living, it ain't getting out.

So, could someone come a dispose of it for me? Thanks.

Can I give you some advice?
It might save screaming, getting stung, and insect lives.

Remain calm.
Get a glass in one hand, and a piece of thin card in the other.
Wait until the insect lands on a flat surface, like a window or table.
Move the glass very very slowly until it is positioned over the insect - insects can't see things that move very slowly, so you should be able to trap it in the glass, as long as it doesn't fly off of its own accord, and you make no sudden moves with the glass.
Slide the card under the glass.
Take the insect outside and release it where it will not immediately fly, or get blown back, into your building.

I have never been stung while performing this operation.
Works for spiders too.

*cringe*

No possible way I could get that close to them.

The length of a glass isn't so different to the length of a shoe - and there's less danger of them reacting angrily and unpredictably to slow movements.
Or maybe I should just get a plane ticket out there every time there's an insect or spider in your room!

I'd come help you, but you're so far away.
