I would suggest Christopher Rice's Density of Souls, or Randy Boyd's Uprising. Those are both books by gay authors that are about gay characters, but they're not obviously (i.e. title and bookcover screaming m/m sex) gay.
Or if you're going for the the screaming gay (basically porn) books, I'd suggest Desert Sons by Mark Kendrick. It's a good book, but whoa is it, um, hot.
Don't know if this helps, but I've personally read all of them and they're all really good.
