I agree with what everyone else has had to say, and here's my two cents worth, too.
I totally understand the comment about feeling old. I'm only 25, but I feel positively ancient. Breeding will do that for you. And grad school. Stress level has a lot to do with how old you feel; if you're perenially stressed, then you're sick and exhausted. It adds years.
I think it's very difficult to keep in touch with people in your life, especially if distance is involved. The only advice I can give you there is to actually pencil in, schedule in, time to write, call, whatever, these people.
And I don't mean this to sound the wrong way, but I think you're in a much better position to help people with problems if you've actually had a few yourself. Take it from a gal who's enjoying the fruits of therapy right now; nothing's more alienating than thinking the worst problem your perfect shrink has ever had is whether to go up on her rates or not. Maybe you should take antidepressents for a while. I've taken them on several occasions for short stints and they worked wonders. I don't think I'd want to be medicated for long term, but they can certainly help you over a hump.
