Er. Sort of.

My hearing aids haven't worked in years, at least since sometime in college when I finally got over my "they'll laugh at me!" fear. I've kept them all these years, wishing they'd work. Well yesterday I sat down with tiny tiny screwdrivers and went to town a-tinkering. By the time I saw Star Trek last night, I'd finangled the left one to work about 90% of the time, cutting out here and there but at least I could hear out of that ear during the movie (ZomG did it make a difference!). But alas, the right one was dead. I took it apart, cleaned it, tinkered, to no avail.

Today I tried it again, poking, proding, testing, beating against the table, and I noticed while I was wearing it that if I held my finger on the switch, it would work, though a little staticky. After some more focused tinkering, I can successfully say it's mostly working. Yahoo! I can hear out of both ears! The left one hasn't given me any trouble yet today, and right one appears to be less wonky, cutting out only about 30% of the time. You guys, I can hear! I can hear the windchimes on my balcony from the kitchen. I can hear the TV in the living room from the bedroom with the volume set on 11 (normally while I'm watching TV in the living room, 6 feet away, the volume is around 43). I can hear kids playing on the swingset at the other end of the complex.

You have no idea how exciting this is! I'm making an appointment with the new ear doctor in town this week, maybe he can either fix these or point me to some kind of funding/grant place to help pay for new ones. My insurance will cover 50% up to $1500 for hearing aids, which is rougly 1/4th the cost of a new pair. But for now, ye gods, I can hear!
Saw Star Trek tonight. Loved it! Even if you don't like/know the series, you should see it. It's just an awesome movie all around. Plus, Spock = Orgasm for the eys. So, so, pretty. I haven't read fic in I can't tell you how long, but I'm inspired to search for some yummy Spock/Kirk fic. Or even some Spock/Russian guy fic (because, though dirty, YUM). I'm almost hoping there are no sequels because I'll have to see them and if they have to do a cast-member-switcheroo I'll be pissed.

It's been a strange day. cut because I've spammed your f-lists enough for one day. )

I need to get out of the apt. for a bit, and I thought about going to the IMAX to see Star Trek. I'm not a huge Trekkie, I liked the show but never followed it. The movie looks good, but is it worth spending the money on the movie if I'm not a superhuge fan?

I realize I'm postilicious today...

But I've been working on this next chapter for three weeks now, and I can't get it to work. ARGH! I hate blocks!

Just got a text from my mom - Jack, aka Poops, the family dog for 15 years died this morning. I'm really sad. He was old but we got him when he was a puppy. He was a good dog. At least he isn't in pain anymore.

So Long, Poops. Rest in Peace.

Now that I go back to work tomorrow after five whole days off...I'm sick.  I'm running a fever, nauseous, and just generally gross.  All within the last couple of hours.  Couple that with my already-less-than-cheerful demeanor today, and it's mayhem.

I did just get done Resume-Bombing America though, sent out about 200 resumes and applications over the last two hours to just about every major city in the US.  I want to be out of Indiana by summer's end.  I'm wasting my life here.

Also, to add to the craptacular Birthday, a cousin of mine was sentenced to 30 years for manslaughter in Florida. I guess the tradition continues.

Speaking of wasting, I think I'll go stew myself in a scalding bath, see if I can't make myself stop shivering.

I despise having to sift through thousands of job openings and each time something good catches my eye "must have graduate degree" piss off!

Why can't there be one in here where the heading reads "Perfect Job for Brad...look no further!"

*sigh*

That was a pretty shitty birthday. Let's not do that again, shall we?

In other news, I decided I'm riding the next opportunity straight out of this redneck existance back to the city where I belong.

ETA: Also, I've decided I'm going to lobby for a "SINGLE AND CHILDLESS DAY". Who's with me?

finally finished.

Wow.

Maine becomes the fifth state to legalize gay marraige.

Keep 'em coming, folks.  Only 45 left to go, pending Texas and Georgia don't leave the union.

And then I'm off for 5 GLORIOUS days. It looked like I wasn't going to get them off, but someone else cancelled their vacation so they didn't need me to fill in. In other words, my b-day vacation is back on. Not that I'll be doing anything, mind you. I think maybe I'll spend the FIVE WHOLE DAYS doing nothing. Maybe a little bit of shopping. A lot of resume sending and job-posting trolling, because I've decided I don't want to still be in Indiana in a year. It's been fun, but I need to get my uppity butt back to a city. I need a change of scenery.

Anywhooooo, maybe I'll finally get the office cleaned out.

I have absolutely no plans for my birthday. Zilch. Notta. Zippo. I'll probably order take out and watch a movie. Unexciting, I know, but everyone's working. I was thinking of taking a day trip up to Chicago (I can't believe I haven't visited since I left), but poor little Ernie would never make it that far. Stupid car.

So now, I'm going to make a cup of coffee, munch on an apple, forget to shave, and get ready for work.
Sorry for my absence and obsessive not-being-here this week.  I promise I'll get to comments today or tomorrow.  BUT!  Based on recommendations, I decided to ditch Geocities before it ditched me and went with a new webhost.  So...New website!  I think it's pretty.  Everything should be up and running now, except my original writing which needs way more formatting than did my fanfiction.  Go check it out.  And change your bookmarks and links if you need to.  I give to you:

Alright, so as most of you know, Geocities will be closing down here, shortly. And, as a few of those most may know, that's where my site is hosted. Original fic, fanfic, everything. I don't want to just archive my fic, I want my whole site somewhere else. So my question, to those in the know:

Is there any other service out there that any of you webmasters use or know of that can replace Geocities? My budget is, well, not. But any info you have would be much appreciated.
